Rann of Kutch is one of the most beautiful and world’s largest salt desert. It is a perfect combination of nature’s beauty, culture and tradition, luxury of colors and celebration, all together reflect the magnificence of Kutch. The Great Rann of Kutch is situated in the district of Kutch, between the Gulf of Kutch and the mouth of the Indus River in southern Pakistan. Self drive trips are the best, because they make you experience the local culture and interact with local people on your way. The best time to visit Kutch is between Novembers to February. In this period the weather is pleasant and bearable. The camel ride is something you can enjoy here. Walk on the beach in Mandvi; watch the birds and windmills rotating in circles above the cool water. Take a short camel ride towards the Vijay Vilas Palace. Go Boundless has tried to include all offbeat and must see destinations in this excursion. Kutch is probably one of the most beautiful, yet surreal places in India. With the vast expanses of white salt desert in the Rann of Kachh area, this is an amazing experience to witness. One would be able to see just stretches of pure white land as far as the eyesight goes. The place comes to life during the winters when the Rann Festival is held during December-February everywhere in which there are huge camp settlements with cultural programs, functions and adventure activities like hot-air ballooning. Kutch is also among the largest district of India with a terribly low population density. Kutch is also famous for crafts and embroidery works, Flamingo Sanctuary and Wild Ass Sanctuary.

Let’s begin to explore Little Rann of Kutch and start driving towards Mandvi
Mandvi is located on the banks of the Rukmavati River, barely one km away from the Arabian Sea at the Gulf of Kutch. The town has a very pleasant climate throughout the year.
Our camp is located on a private beach at Vijay Vilas Palace, Mandvi. Vijay Vilas is the residence of the Maharao of Kutch and was originally made as a summer palace for the royal family.
Visit the boat building yards and pick up souvenirs in the handicraft villages near the town. Sit on the beach and sip a cool drink. In the evening, enjoy dinner by the waters and spend the night once again at the luxury camps.
Get up relaxed enjoy your tea at the beach and get ready to drive towards “ Dhordho”, Dhordo is where Rann festival is held and is gateway to the renowned White Desert."Dhordo Village is set on the edge of Indo - Pak border, north of Bhuj and is renowned for its White desert, bird watching and craft villages.
Dhordo also provides excellent opportunity for bird watching around the area in winters when a lot of Migratory birds arrive for nesting. We will reach Dhordho by lunch time and after Lunch we will move towards Kalo Dungar. Kalo Dungar is also known as Black Hills and it is the highest point in Kutch, at 462 m. From here, the entire northern horizon vanishes into the Great Rann, the desert and sky often becoming indistinguishable. It is one of the few non-coastal locations where you feel like you are at the edge of the earth, on the brink of incomprehensible vastness that fades off towards infinity. Looking out from the Black Hills, you can understand the tremendous effort that those who undertake the crossing of the Great Rann have to make.
Before heading towards Bhuj we will test our vehicles on vast flat salt land. Just about 5 km from Dhordo, there is the spectacular White Desert situated in the Great Rann of Kutch. The White Desert is a result of accumulated salt – during the rains it becomes a marshy area covered with salt water, but during winters as the water evaporates, the salt accumulates over the Great Rann of Kutch to turn into the spectacular White Desert. Experience of driving on this desert is lifetime experience. After dune bashing we will reach Bhuj for lunch time. We will have famous Kutchi Pau Bhaji for lunch; After Lunch we will head towards Gondal
